Garage door repair across Montgomery, Somerset County, NJ, from Montgomery Garage Door Repair.
A new garage door changes how the front of a Montgomery house looks, and on many homes here the garage takes up a big share of that view. It also changes how warm the garage stays and how quiet the door is when someone leaves early.
Choosing a door
Most of the doors we install in the township fall into a few types:
- Plain steel, non-insulated. Light, affordable and fine for a detached garage or a workshop that is not heated. - Insulated steel. Two steel skins with insulation between them. Stiffer, quieter and better for a garage that shares a wall with the house. - Carriage-house style. Decorative handles and hinges on a door that still rolls up overhead. - Full-view glass with an aluminium frame. Lets light in and suits modern houses.
For homes with living space over the garage, an insulated door and a belt-drive or wall-mount opener make the biggest difference to noise.
Prices on this site's table
- Single steel door, non-insulated: $755 to $1,260 - Single insulated door: $1,170 to $2,050 - Double, two-car door: $1,625 to $3,390
The final price depends on size, insulation, windows and hardware. You get it before anything is ordered.
Measuring and fitting
The technician measures the width and height of the opening, the headroom above it and the side room on each wall. Headroom matters in garages with low ceilings or ductwork, since a door with too little space may need low-headroom track. The new door is fitted with new tracks, rollers, cables and springs sized to its weight. Reusing old springs on a new, heavier door is a common reason doors fail early, so we do not do it.
Three-car garages
When a house has a double door and a single door, or three singles, people sometimes replace one at a time. That works, but the panel style and color should match. Bring up the other doors when you call, so we can make sure the style you pick is still available for later.
The old door
The old door, its springs and its track are taken down and hauled away. Old torsion springs are under tension and need to be let down with care before removal. That is part of the job.
Before you decide
Not every tired-looking door needs replacing. If the panels are sound and the problem is noise, sagging or slow movement, new rollers, springs and hinges may be enough. Call (609) 699-9938 and the technician can look at both options and tell you the cost of each.
